Roger Connell

Roger Connell is Kelston Sparkes Training School’s first ever trainer who joined us in 1999 when we first established our training offer. Over 24 years later, he’s still fully involved in training and testing on all our popular plant courses and is also an NVQ Assessor.

Roger’s knowledge is second to none and with such a wealth of experience under his belt, he is a fantastic asset to the training school.

Sam Jones

Sam Jones joined us in May 2022. An experienced site operator, Sam has worked hard to become a qualified CPCS tester for forward tipping dumpers and articulated dump trucks. He also became a competent training instructor for various other items of mobile plant and continues to add categories to his tester card. Up next is the roller card, with wheeled loading shovels straight after. He’s already proving to be a fantastic addition to our three-strong team of employed testers and is receiving fantastic feedback from candidates.

Martyn Down

Martyn joined the team in 2026, as a fully qualified assessor, with over 5 years experience delivering Plant Training.  Prior to this Martyn worked on various sites and in various environments for over 15 years as a highly competent mobile plant operator.

Mark Carter

Mark became part of the training team in May 2025, having previously worked on site as an experienced plant operator for over 30 years. Now a qualified CPCS assessor, Mark is able to impart his on site knowledge to candidates during training, which proves invaluable to novice and experienced operator alike.
