South West based Kelston Sparkes Group is delighted to welcome Ben Fitton to the team as Safety Advisor. Ben, who joined the company in March, was previously employed as a Plant Operator by Curo Group, a Housing Association based in Bath that owns and manages more than 14,000 homes. He’s operated plant for over 10 years, including as a sole trader.
In his own time, Ben undertook NEBOSH General Certificate qualifications as well as the SSSTS (Safe2Site Supervision Training) with Phoenix Training with a view to a change of career into Health & Safety in construction. He successfully applied for the job with Kelston Sparkes and hasn’t looked back. He’s delighted to work with such a big local contractor;
“The company is a great employer; everyone has been very welcoming and friendly. It’s been a steep learning curve getting involved in the quarrying sector, as well as groundworks, but it’s really interesting and definitely a new string to the bow. I have learned a lot from David Barber and Nigel Beaver, who are both industry experts and know the sectors inside out. I see this is as a long-term career and very much enjoying it.”
David Barber is Head of SHEQ;
“Ben is a great appointment. He has learned the ropes very quickly and we have been able to give him site projects sooner than we thought. He’s a real asset to the team.”
When he’s not at work Ben is a keen cyclist and – as a new dad to baby Millie – is as busy outside work as in.
