A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced plant operator to join our established and successful company, within the South and South West.
Position Summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual, to join our established training school and work within the existing team of trainers and testers, to undertake training for CPCS and NPORS Plant tickets, and carry out Level 2 NVQs in Plant Operations. Whilst experience in this role would be highly desirable, we will provide initial and ongoing training and support for any candidate, with the right qualities, looking to progress as a qualified trainer and tester.
Key Duties;
- Undertaking practical and theory training and testing for a variety of plant categories. For example – Exc 360, Forward Tipping Dumper, Ride on Roller, Articulated Dump Truck etc
- Provide feedback to candidates in a constructive and supportive manner.
- Complete documentation to record a candidate’s progress.
- Plan and organise work with individuals and team members
- Site visits
Experience Required:
Individuals must have a minimum of five years’ experience in operating a variety of mobile plant and equipment within the construction industry. It would also be advantageous to have knowledge of the CPCS card scheme, but this is not essential. The right candidate would be able to communicate with people in a clear way, and have an aptitude for learning new processes and procedures. UK driving license required.

Position Summary
We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic individual to join our established team and to work closely with clients and sub-contractors making sure objectives are completed on time.
Duties will include:
- Delivering Site Inductions, Toolbox Talks and Daily Activity Briefings (DABs)
- Managing the quality of work by direct labour and subcontractors
- Provide effective Management to site operatives, sub-contractors.
- Communicate with personnel and clients at all levels.
- Have a commercial understanding of the project, always implementing cost and efficiency savings.
- Ensure on site Health & Safety and the wellbeing of all staff employed or subcontracted by Kelston Sparkes
- Represent the company in a professional and proactive manner, always building and maintaining strong relationships with clients.
- Accurate paperwork is completed daily, recording all aspects of the project, and signed where required.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for an individual with excellent supervisory skills and a proven track record in the successful delivery of Civil Engineering and/or Groundworks projects. Experience can range from the Management of large delivery teams to demonstratable experience in leadership roles.
Qualifications – SMSTS Certification, CSCS/CPCS Card, Qualified first aider, HND OR NVQ or Demonstratable experience.

Apprenticeship in Heavy Mobile Plant
We have an exciting new opportunity for an individual that aspires to develop a career in the mobile plant sector. Our fantastic 4-year apprenticeship offers the opportunity to learn about and work on a full range of machinery including excavators, wheeled loaders, articulated dumpers, dozers, crushers and screeners.
As a family run business with over 70 years in the industry, Kelston Sparkes has over 300 items of plant and directly employs 160 staff. The apprentice would work alongside our friendly, knowledgeable team to learn new skills and build confidence whilst studying for the NVQ Level 2-3 in Plant Mechanics. The programme consists of college-based block release training with practical training in our workshops and onsite and – on successful completion of the Apprenticeship – the apprentice will become a fully qualified Plant Engineer ready to work in our workshops and sites, where the learning will continue.

- Maintain a sufficient personal toolkit to enable you to carry out the job effectively

Essential Skills
